Richland School District Two, Columbia SC
Project Ignition Summary 2004-2005
Sponsored by State Farm
The Richland School District Two Youth Action Council (Columbia, SC) created a mixed media campaign to deliver critical messages about seatbelt safety to 6000 peers in the district's three high schools. The campaign, called Click It. That's the Ticket! increased student awareness about seatbelt safety and improved seatbelt usage on district high school campuses by 19% during the eight week campaign period.
Steps involved in project implementation included the following
- pre-campaign data collection and analysis;
- community partner collaboration;
- print & technology product development; information dissemination through school wide broadcasts, news, television and web sources;
- incentive ticket and prize distribution;
- post-campaign data collection and analysis;
- data comparison and impact studies
Student campaign leaders successfully took their message from the "schoolhouse to the statehouse" in an effort to encourage legislators to strengthen South Carolina seatbelt laws. In 2005, SC successfully passed a primary seatbelt law.
